Experience the difference
It has become a common belief that individuals are no longer able to care for their own dead and instead must engage an expensive funeral home. This is not the only legal option as caring for your own deceased person is an option. Nor is embalming required by law.
We also understand that having hands-on end-of-life and funeral care is certainly not for everyone, particularly at a time when grief is so fresh.
Over recent years, with the influence of national based companies, the price of funerals has increased significantly without the corresponding improvement in the quality of service.
Here at Tree of Life Funerals, we provide quality personal care, without the expensive price tag. We provide personalised, meaningful, heart-felt and affordable funeral services.
We are a group of funeral professionals with vast experience in caring for not only the deceased person, but for the people who love them.
We cater for families wishing to farewell a loved one by way of a funeral service at Broulee Memorial Gardens Crematorium, a graveside service, or a cremation with no attendees.
We keep things simple so a funeral is more affordable by offering a reduced number of venue and coffin choices, but we never scimp on the quality of our services.
We can also assist with holding a memorial and/or interment service and tree planting in the beautiful Bodalla Walawaani Way, 'Safe Journey' Conservation Burial grounds, which is a wonderful way for a person to be honoured and memorialised, in the midst of a growing conservation forest at Bodalla in Yuin Country. This Natural Burial Ground is being developed and will be an option for burials in the near future.
With all our funeral services we include:
- The transfer of the deceased person into our care.
- Completion and lodgement of all relevant paperwork necessary to conduct the funeral and produce a death certificate.
- Arranging and conducting the funeral service.
- Preparation of all music and slideshow productions.
- Viewing in the Broulee Chapel immediately prior to the ceremony.
- Collection of clothes and other items.
- Provision of a template for home production of a service booklet.
- We also provide direct cremation service where a cremation occurs without a formal funeral service taking place.
If a person dies at home:
If a person collapses or dies suddenly and unexpectedly at home, call 000 immeditately.
However, if a person dies at home and it's expected, take your time, gather your thoughts, make a cup of tea. When you're ready, call your family members and friends to relay the news, there is no urgency.
Try and keep the deceased person as cool as possible, turn on airconditioning if you have it, cover the person with just a sheet, then, call Tree of Life Funerals on 0493-516-943 (after 8:00am if possible), as well as your family doctor to attend to provide a death certificate.
Tree of Life Funerals will be able to advise you on all aspects of what comes next and will come to you to attend you and your deceased loved one, as soon as possible.

The ancient practice of Holding Vigil
Holding Vigil is the practice of staying with our dead and accompanying them until their spirit departs from their body or when our deep creative unconscious informs us, through a felt sense or internal shift, that the time has come to physically separate and let go. We know from many diverse Death Care practices in cultures around the world that this often happens on the third day.
It appears that three days allows the human psyche the necessary time to go through the stages of trauma, despair and finally the gentle beginning of acceptance. These stages often involve the washing and preparing of the body and then inviting others into this sacred space to see their loved one who has died and be witnessed in this experience of deep love and loss.
When the body is in the family’s care, all of this can take place.
When the body is not in the family’s care, the abrupt physical separation from a loved can create a void and can feel jarring because these natural human needs and processes cannot take place when, and in the way that is needed. Tree of Life Services can assist you in keeping your deceased person at home for up to three days, prior to the funeral. But for the majority of families, we understand that such hands-on end-of-life and funeral care is certainly not for everyone so in this case, Tree of Life Funerals will care for your deceased person on your behalf.
